Madame Fortuna
Madame Fortuna is an independent retail success story, with a 10-year history of providing one-of-a-kind vintage shopping experiences in the small riverside town of Narrowsburg, NY.
Founder Allison Ward (who previously ran a vintage shop in Brooklyn) describes Madame Fortuna as “a haven of exquisite taste and quiet discovery.” It specializes in meticulously curated fine vintage jewelry “from Georgian to Deco and beyond,” as well as collaborative offerings of unique artfully designed clothing, revitalized heirloom furniture, and evocative artworks (including pieces by Rhode Island artist Brett Day Windham, who has also contributed to the shop’s visual identity).
As the accompanying photos show, simply walking into Madame Fortuna is a rich and transporting experience of its own. Ward’s clever use of both picture rail molding and chair rail molding for her salon-style art displays is especially immersive, providing a good view for patrons whether they are standing or sitting. Brushed brass Gallery System picture rail hangers are a great aesthetic fit and provide instant adjustment.
“The system works wonderfully, and I love having it in the shop,” says Ward. “It makes hanging so easy and versatile!”
Happily, you can still connect with Madame Fortuna even if you can’t make it to Narrowsburg. In addition to a vibrant online store and active Instagram presence, Ward participates in events like the Manhattan Vintage Show (which also has an Austin, TX Edition). These can be tracked on the store’s Journal page.
We’re honored to lend a hand to this inspiring enterprise!
